SECURITY OF SYSTEM OPERATION

Dalam Ilmu komputer, Sistem operasi atau dalam bahasa Inggris: Operating System atau OS adalah perangkat lunak sistem yang bertugas untuk memberikan abstraksi terhadap kontrol dan manajemen perangkat keras serta operasi-operasi dasar sistem, yang digunakan oleh software aplikasi seperti program-program pengolah kata dan browser web.

Secara umum, Sistem Operasi adalah software pada lapisan pertama yang ditaruh pada memori komputer pada saat komputer dinyalakan. Sedangkan software-software lainnya dijalankan setelah Sistem Operasi berjalan, dan Sistem Operasi akan melakukan layanan inti umum untuk software-software itu. Layanan inti umum tersebut seperti akses ke disk, manajemen memori, skeduling task, dan antar-muka user. Sehingga masing-masing software tidak perlu lagi melakukan tugas-tugas inti umum tersebut, karena dapat dilayani dan dilakukan oleh Sistem Operasi. Bagian kode yang melakukan tugas-tugas inti dan umum tersebut dinamakan dengan "kernel" suatu Sistem Operasi.

Sistem operasi-sistem operasi utama yang digunakan komputer sistem umum (termasuk PC, komputer personal) terbagi menjadi 3 kelompok besar:

1. Keluarga Microsoft Windows - yang antara lain terdiri dari Windows Desktop Environment (versi 1.x hingga versi 3.x), Windows 9x (Windows 95, 98, dan Windows ME), dan Windows NT (Windows NT 3.x, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 (Seven) yang dirilis pada tahun 2009, dan Windows 8 yang akan dirilis pada tahun 2012 atau lebih lambat)).

2. Keluarga Unix yang menggunakan antarmuka sistem operasi POSIX, seperti SCO UNIX, keluarga BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution), GNU/Linux, MacOS/X (berbasis kernel BSD yang dimodifikasi, dan dikenal dengan nama Darwin) dan GNU/Hurd.

3. Mac OS, adalah sistem operasi untuk komputer keluaran Apple yang biasa disebut Mac atau Macintosh. Sistem operasi yang terbaru adalah Mac OS X versi 10.6 (Snow Leopard). Musim panas 2011 direncanakan peluncuran versi 10.7 (Lion).

Sedangkan komputer Mainframe, dan Super komputer menggunakan banyak sekali sistem operasi yang berbeda-beda, umumnya merupakan turunan dari sistem operasi UNIX yang dikembangkan oleh vendor seperti IBM AIX, HP/UX, dll.

Sistem Operasi komputer sama halnya dengan tubuh manusia yang memerlukan proteksi akan serangan dari luar, baik itu virus, worm, keylogger, atau pun mallware.

Banyak cara untuk memberikan proteksi atau perlindungan pada SO, yaitu dengan pemberian antivirus, ataupun memasang deep freeze. Antivirus merupakan software yang dibuat untuk memberikan perlindungan pada SO dari serangan luar yang dapat merusak keamanan Sistem Operasi. Antivirus secara umum dibedakan menjadi 2 golongan. Yaitu Antivirus Domestik dan Antivirus Luar. Untuk pemasangan tergantung kebutuhan, jika komputer terhubung dengan internet, maka dibutuhkan antivirus yang berbasis Antivirus Luar. Kenapa harus antivirus luar yang dipilih? Ini dikarenakan, antivirus luar sudah terintegrasi fasilitas untuk mendeteksi keylogger, worm, maupun mallware yang banyak bertebaran di dunia maya. Tetapi jika komputer hanya digunakan untuk jenis rumahan, dan penggunaannya pun hanya sebatas untuk mengetik atau yang tidak membutuhkan koneksi ke internet, saya rasa antivirus domestik pun sudah cukup untuk menanganinya. Banyak perusahaan-perusahaan yang mengembangkan antivirus, sehingga banyak sekali antivirus yang bertebaran di luar sana. Berikut peringkat 10 besar Antivirus menurut the-top-tens.com untuk tahun 2011.

6. McAfee 7. Avira 8. BitDefender 9. Trend Micro 10. Panda Security

Tapi, sehebat apapun antivirusnya, pastilah ada titik kelemahan. Bayangkan, setiap harinya virus berkembang lebih pesat dari yang kita duga. Ada sekitar sedikitnya 1000 virus yang keluar setiap hari. Dan juga, masing-masing antivirus memiliki kelebihan dan kekurangan. Tidak mungkin kita memasang semua antivirus kedalam komputer. Karena itu akan menyebabkan beratnya jalan OS, dan menyebabkan “lag”. Maka dari itu ada software yang di sebut “deep freeze” yang bisa menjadi sebagai pertimbangan untuk proteksi sistem.

Deep Freeze adalah software Block restore yang di ciptakan oleh perusahaan faronics yang bekerja di bidang pembuatan Software. deep freeze di ciptakan untuk menjaga dan mengorganisir files yang ingin di simpan secara permanen, terutama pada Local disk Sytem.

Cara kerja deep freeze adalah membekukan semua file yang berada computer pada waktu pertama penginstalan program ini. program dapat di ubah hanya pada saat anda menggunakan komputer, bila komputer ke restart maka file yang anda ubah akan kembali ke settingan pertama seperti sebelum di restart.

Untuk memakai Deep Freeze sebaiknya komputer anda dibagi menjadi setidaknya 2 partisi yaitu partisi "master" untuk instalasi sistem OS komputer seperti Windows, yang kedua partisi "secondary" untuk data, installer maupun backup. Yang anda pakai untuk Deep Freeze hanya partisi sistem anda saja atau partisi "master" karena partisi ini yang paling banyak diserang oleh virus atau mengalami masalah dengan OS ketika startup. Untuk partisi data sebaiknya tidak perlu dipasang Deep Freeze karena anda tidak ingin ketika komputer anda restart data anda hilang atau kembali ke posisi semula sebelum terjadi perubahan. Kalau komputer anda singel partition (hanya ada "C" saja tidak ada "D", dimana "D" bukan CD/DVD-ROM atau RW), sebaiknya anda jangan memakai software ini kecuali anda mau mengubahnya menjadi 2 partisi dengan menggunakan software seperti Partition Magic. Satu hal yang penting lagi, untuk pengisian password, anda jangan sampai lupa password anda karena akan berakibat fatal bagi anda karena tidak dapat mengubah setting dari Deep Freeze dan bahkan tidak dapat meng-uninstallnya. untuk mengaktifkan/menonaktifkan dan mengubah password pada deep freeze tekan shift-Ctrl-Alt-F6 secara bersamaan maka software akan muncul dengan sendirinya.

Perlu diperhatikan, sebelum menginstal Deep Freeze usahakan agar komputer dalam keadaan fresh, tanpa ada gangguan virus, dsb. Jika ingin menginstal software ini, lebih baik setelah menginstal ulang SO dan memasukan software2 pendukung lainnya yang bebas dari virus, worm ataupun mallware, kemudian instal sofware ini.

Keuntungan Deep Freeze :

1. Kita tidak perlu lagi khawatir denagn ancaman virus, sebab setelah komputer terinfeksi virus, kita tinggal merestart komputer tsb dan maka komputer kembali dalam keadaan sebelum terkena virus. Meskipun berkali2 virus masuk, setelah restart komputer hilang virus akan hilang,

2. Jika mungkin kita tidak sengaja merubah system misal control panel dan registry, jangan perlu khawatir, restart saja komputernya maka kembali keadaan awal

3. Software ini sangat cocok dan dianjurkan untuk komputer2 warnet yang memang dipakai oleh beberapa user yg berbeda-beda karakter.

Kekurangannya :

1. Jika lupa men-”tawed” atau menonaktifkan DF sebelum menambah dan menginstall program2, maka itu akan percuma dan menjadi pekerjaan yg sia2.

2. Terkadang terjadi error, HDD jadi tidak bisa booting OS, karna partisinya menjadi kacau, tetapi hal yang seperti ini jarang terjadi.

3. Jika kita lupa akan password pada deep freeze, maka perlu instal ulang OS, ini merupakan hal yang merepotkan.
